ABOUT ME

A small-town native, Isabelle Boyer received the majority of her early dance training at Club Dance Studio in Queen Creek, AZ, under the direction of Danny Lawn and Kelli Wilkins. She went on to receive a BFA in Dance Performance from Chapman University, alongside a second major in Psychology and minor in Nutrition. At Chapman, Isabelle continued her versatile dance education, studying with professors and mentors Will Johnston, Dwight Rhoden, Ido Tadmor, Alicia Guy, Wilson Mendieta, and Liz Curtis. She humbly served as the rehearsal assistant to Complexions Contemporary Ballet co-director Dwight Rhoden, in the creation of his 2022 Fall concert work at Chapman. She is thankful to have had a multitude of live performance experiences through student-choreographed works, as well as through pieces by artists Igal Perry, Darina Littleton, and Talia Paz. Outside of the university setting, Isabelle works closely with Jessica Starr’s MusEffect Dance Company, as an assistant, performer, and mentor to younger dancers. She recently danced with them on the 2022 LA Industry Dance Awards stage and was featured alongside Derek Hough and Haley Erbert in the adjacent Dancer Against Cancer music video PSA, entitled “Hey Ya!” She has danced on-camera in many of MusEffect’s dance films, most recently, “I’m Tired” and “Unstoppable,” performing choreography by Matthew Fata, Katie Hazard, Cameron Wille, and director Jessica Starr. Her dance in film experience is further supported by a featured role in “Voyage Through The Mettaverse,” directed by Elizabeth Curtis, and her role as an extra in Olivia Rodrigo’s “SOUR Prom” virtual Youtube concert.

Isabelle feels very fortunate to have been able to maintain a multifaceted and diverse dance career thus far, balancing between commercial and concert-based opportunities. She hopes to broaden her experience in these areas moving forward, and pursue a largely performance-based career in the Los Angeles and New York City dance industries. Isabelle currently works as an Administrative Assistant for the Joffrey Ballet School in NYC, whilst pursuing a performance-based career in contemporary dance.

When she is not dancing, you can find Isabelle trying new coffee shops and restaurants, going for walks in warm weather, and finding new music on Spotify to add to her monthly playlists.

teaching statement

“Dance as a form of art and creative expression is where my greatest passion lies. I feel that there is something incredibly rewarding in the act of teaching that passion to others, that continues to feed my internal fire for doing so. My greatest goal I seek to convey in a teaching setting is a genuine sense of excitement and enthusiasm for movement, as that is the aspect of dance that resonates with me the most personally. Taking stress off the shoulders of students and cultivating an environment that is warm, healthy, and gently motivating, is what I aim to provide as a teacher. Finding a synergistic balance between a sense of limitless energy and grounded sense of self guides my practice of teaching. When I can see that visually reflected in the energy of the students through smiles and connection, and palpably reflected through increased inspiration for growth through energy levels, is when I find everyone in the room is enjoying the space most.”
